[No source given]
Gestit ouans Amor, & de re sibi plaudit amata;
Nescius inuidiam se, velut vmbra, sequi.
Hoc habet omnis Amor, vt apertum liuor adurat,
Tutus ab inuidia cùm sit opertus Amor.
translationtranslation

Enuy is loues shadow.
The more the Sunne shynes cleer the darker shadows bee,
The more loue doth appeer the more is enuy seen,
For enuy hath of loue the shadow euer been,
And loue securest lyes within dark secresie.

Inuidia è ombra d’Amore.
Quanto piu luce il sol, piu appar l’oscuro,
Quanto piu bello sembra Amor, piu versa,
Tosco l’Inuidia, ombra di lui peruersa.
l’Amor ch’è piu secreto è piu securo.

Nijdt Liefdes schaduwe.
Al watter comt in ’t licht dat brenght sijn schaduw’ mede;
Cupido altoos heeft voor schaduwe de nijdt/
Hoe claerder hy hem toont/ hoe min daer van bevrijt.
In ’t duyster en ’t secreet blijft Liefde meest in vrede.

Enuie ombre d’Amour.
Plus clair luit le soleil, plus noir paroit l’ombrage,
Plus d’Amour paroit beau, plus vomit de poison,
La maigre, & noire enuie, (ombre de Cupidon.)
Le secret Amour est plus franc de sa rage.

Translations

Jaloezie is de schaduw van de liefde.
Envy is the shadow of love.
Cupid cheerfully exults and applauds something that is loved by him, without knowing that envy is following him like a shadow. Each Love has [is connected with] this, that when it is overt, envy is burning, but when it is kept secret, Love is safe from envy.
