Thogh Argus do not want an hundreth eyes to see,
Yet Cupid by his pype can bring them closse a-sleep,
But who asleep can ought from Cupid safely keep?
When watchfulnes it self deceau’d by him may bee.

Vigil’ Amor la vigilanza inganna.
Pon’ Argo in van ne gl’ occhi suoi speranza,
Che Amor l’accieca, e dolcemente appanna,
Scorge, & fura ogni cosa, & ancho inganna
Con la scaltrezza sua la vigilanza.

Cupido kanse doen slapen door sijn spel/
Gheen dingh is soo bewaert of hy vercrijght het wel.
Cupido dickwijls heeft de wackerheyt bedroghen

Pas son ieu les endort Amour trompeur bien fin,
Rien n’est si bien gardé qu’il n’emporte à la fin,
Sa finesse deçoit de tous la vigilance.
