Atque retenti instar violentiùs æstuat amnis.

If fortune or ought els force loue against his will,
Then his desyre gainsayd, by force hee seekes to gayn.

Kijk, tevergeefs houdt Fortuna Amors fakkel vast want hij is fel en gaat uitstel tegen met zijn vleugels en bruist als het ware heftiger op dan een tegengehouden rivier. Zo wordt ook een minnaar door hindernissen furieuzer.

Look, in vain fortune hinders Amor's torch, for he is fierce and frustrates delay with his wings and, so to say, he boiles up more vehemently than a suppressed river. In the same way a lover becomes more furious by hindrances.
