DE Liefde weet van hopen, niet van vreezen.
Zy zit gerust en stil
In haer Bemindens wil:
Of, zoo zy werkt, 't is om bereidt te wezen
Op 't Euangeli-padt;
Zoo wordt zy môe nogh mat.
Haer Bruigom dryft, geweldigh in het jagen,
De vrees ten deuren uit,
Die Hy met handen sluit.
Geen vreezigh hart kan Jezus ooit behagen.
Wie yvrigh mint, wie hoopt;
Maer laffe vrees verkoopt
Den Godtsdienst aen de wanhoop voor de smarten
Van droevigh naberou
Om een geschonde trou.
De Liefde sterkt de Godgewydde harten.
De veege vrees verliest,
De vaste Liefde kiest
En houdt het licht der zuivre hemelstralen:
Die lamp wordt nooit gedooft
In 't hart dat hoopt, gelooft,
En mint; op dat de ziel niet af zou dwalen.
