Waer sich dees Lelij wendt sij is doch nergens vrij.
Beset aen alle kant met Doorenen, die sij
Niet Can ontwijcken. Maer haer wortels deucht sal gheven
Met suijver Wit verciert onderhout om te leeven.
Het klene hoopjen dat twemael ghebooren is,
Blijft levendich in Godt. al lijt het hindernis,
En wert verdruckt: van die haer heer en Godt versaken
Die met de Doornen oock int vier sullen gheraken. translation

De tous costez de ronces & d'espines
Ce pouvre Lis se void enuironné:
Mais la vertu de ses viues racines
L'entretient vif, & de blancheur orné:

Viuant à Dieu, & pressé des bastards:
