No ay petto à prueba de Amor,
Que la flecha de vn amante
Passa vn pecho de diamante. translation

Met scherpe pijlen liefde schiet,
Gheen stael oft ijser hout hem teghen:
Al t’ghene wederstant hem biet,
Hy door sijn crachten doet beweghen,
Al waer versteent des menschen hert,
Vercout, verhert, als sonder leuen.
Soo die beroert van liefde wert,
Tot alle deucht sich moet begheuen.

Remarquons en ceste figure
De l’amour diuin les effectz,
N’y ayant pas d’ame si dure,
Qui soit à preuue de ses traitz:
Si ta priere est lente & froide,
Et que tu la veuille enflammer,
Ne cherche pas d’aultre remede,
Seulement commence d’aimer. translation

De liefde overwint alles.
Love conquers all
Ware liefde vindt niets hard, niets bitter, niets zwaar, niets dodelijk.
True love counts nothing hard, nothing bitter, nothing serious, nothing deadly. What iron, which wounds, which punishment, which deaths are strong enough to separate perfect love? Love is an impenetrable armour, it wards off projectiles, knocks the sword aside, it revels in dangers, it laughs at death. If it is love, it conquers all.
Love does not feel a burden, it gives no consideration to exertions, it strives after more than its powers permit, it does not hide behind the reason that something is impossible, because it believes that for it everything is possible and permitted.
It is only love that conquers everything and without which all is worth nothing, and wherever it may be, it draws all towards itself.
