CONSENSIO VOLVNTATVM.translationtranslation
tribuit: eadem velle & eadem nolle, firmus amor est1.translationtranslation[Hieronymus, Epistolae, epist/sect/plv/plp. 68/1/22/651]
[Sallustius, Bellum Catilinae, l1/l2. 20/3]

Leo.
Si humanæ amicitiæ pares animos & similes ex-
petunt voluntates, nec vnquam diuersitas morum
ad firmam potest venire concordiam; quomodo di-
uinæ amicitiæ particeps erit, cui ea placent, quæ
Deo displicent; & ijs appetit delectari, quibus illum
nouit offendi?translationtranslation[Leo, Sermones, l1/l2/plv/plp/plc. 26/3/54/214/B]

Quando Amor junta en vn jugo
Al hombre humano y à Dios,
Que no tiraran los dos? translation

Alsulcke liefd’oprecht sal sijn
Daer twee ghelieuen t’samen trecken
Altoos ghelijckelijck eenen lijn,
En twist gheen onrust kan verwecken:
Als wy met liefde Godts ons werck
Aenrechten naer de deucht gheduldich,
Met hem wy trecken euen sterck,
En crijghen crachten menichvuldich.

S’il est vray que l’Amour se forme
d’Vne vnion de volonté;

In friends, possessions are not sought after, but good will, because not only one of these is supplied by friends, but the other is imparted by love. To want the same things and not to want the same things is steadfast love.
If human friendships require like minds and like wills, then also different ways of life cannot attain full concord. How could he partake of divine friendship who likes those things that are displeasing to God and who seeks those pleasures he knows God is offended by?
