Comments

Met de topos van de koude vuurslag die brand sticht, blijft ook dit embleem, zoals het vorige, stilstaan bij het gegeven van de koude geliefde. Dat de minnaar in vlam staat, terwijl van zijn beminde niets dan kou uitgaat, is een overbekende petrarkistische tournure.

De pictura is opgebouwd uit een combinatie van (a) een amoureuze impresa uit de bundel impresen van S. Bargagli, met hetzelfde Latijnse motto ¹ en (b) een afbeelding van de koele en kuise nymph Syrinx die, door Pan achtervolgd, in riet werd veranderd waaruit de sater zich een fluit vervaardigde.²
