Venturum exhorresco diem [27]
XXVII.
Venturum exhorresco diem.
HEi mihi! quæ Circe vultum mutauit Amoris?
Dædala quò picto cessit ab ore Venus?
Quò dens oris ebur? niuei quò lilia colli?
Quò nitor, & geminæ lumina bina faces?
Quò rosa malarum, natiuaque purpura labri,
Quæque priùs posuit Gratia fronte Larem?
Quò coma defluxit flauentibus aurea cirris?
Quam velit esse suam Phœbus, & esse Charis.
Nulla manent priscæ puero vestigia formæ;
Squallidus at toto luror in ore sedet;
Os abit in rostrum, toto stant vertice plumæ,
Luminaque in binis bina sepulta cauis.
Ascalaphum (falso nisi stet pro teste vetustas)
Sic turpem Cereris filia fecit auem,
Hostem lucis auem, dirum mortalibus omen,
Tristiæ dictantem funera, mortis auem.
At tibi non Hecates furor, aut mala gramina Circes
Mutarunt vultus, leno puelle, tuos:
Ast Hecate peior, Circæâque arte Voluptas,
Quæque timent testem crimina fœda diem.
Dulichius deforme gulæ sic grunnio rostrum
Debet, auaritiæ, quod micet aure, Midas.
Proderis è vultu: quid frustrà conderis vmbris?
Phœbus adest; luci te dabit orta dies.
Illa dies, Minos quatiet quâ cœlicus vrnam,
Et Themis ætherio ius dabit æqua foro,
Illa dies, cœcis quæ pandet operta cauernis,
Et si quid nigro nox tegit vlla specu,
Illa dies, renum quæ scrutatura latebras
Eruet arcanos, Cypria furta, metus,
Illa dies, veri quâ testibus obruta caussam
Destituet Paphij Suada vel ipsa gregis:
Hæc tibi terrori est, timet hanc mens conscia testem,
Hæc est quam refugis, Cyprie bubo, dies.
Sic metuit lucem, subselliaque æqua Catonis
Autolyci è piceâ posteritate nepos;
Sic famosa sacræ temerato fœdere tædæ
Venturi Coniux Coniugis ora timet.
Omne scelus pauidum est, refugit testemque, diemque,
Si nigra quid noxæ nox sine teste parit.
AEneus est, nullo pallescere crimine, murus:
Si vis Orbe metum tollere, tolle scelus.

L'hibou, & le mondain, & la rate-penade,
Nourrissons de la nuict, le iour ont en horreur;
Ilz craignent que Titan par sa dorée oeillade,
Descouurirat aux cieux leur infame laideur.
