X.
Mundi me lapsus adauget.
HOc quod suspicis, hoc quod obstupescis,
Quo spes culmine fabricas superbas,
Quo dicta est lare Firmitas morari,
Quæ visa est statio Perennitatis,
Tutelæ domus, & Salutis ara,
Vitrum est, vel vitreum quid esse vitro
Si potest magis. His ruina tectis
Legit perpetuos sibi penates.
Præceps labitur, occiditque Mundus,
Crystallus Venetis gelata flammis
Vt leui ruit, interitque flatu.
His vultum speculatur in ruinis,
Et sese malè recreat Cupido,
Sic est: in vitium ruente Mundo
(Et en quàm facilis ruina Mundi)
Crescit lapsibus omnibus Cupido;
Culpam culpa trahit prior sequentem,
Et simul paritur, paritque noxa,

Et noxas parit vna noxa mille,
Vt flammas parit vna flamma centum.
Nempe fertile semen est malorum,
Princeps principis vt Parentis omnes
Lapsus vnicus iuit in nepotes:
Errat hinc calor ossium per omnem
Deuoratque medullitus medullam
Incautus raperis, propellerisque
In Paphumque, Tyrannidemque Amoris;
Mox & spontè sequi iuuat ruentes,
Et dulce est socios habere culpæ,
Vt dulce est socios habere pœnæ;
Et palàm pudet esse te pudentem,
Omnes cùm videas palàm impudentes;
Et magis iuuat esse te impudentem,
Omnes cùm videas parùm impudentes.
Crescit lapsibus his, & his Cupido.
Multi olim Hippolyti, Parisque rarus;
Nunc (o tempora, Temporumque mores!)
Rarus Hippolytus, Parisque multus.
Audi vota Deus, pudica vota:
Sint multi Hippolyti, Parisque nullus.

Audi Cypridis impudice miles:
Mundum si fugis; occidit Cupido.

Si le glacé crystal, auquel Venus se farde,
Viēt à glisser des mains d'vn mignō de sa garde;
On en voyt dix à douz' pour vne seule face:
La cheute d'vn vault-rien en mille lieux le place.

Ghelijck den minsten val
Van een seer broosch ghelas /
Verbeeldt in groot ghetal
Het beeldt dat eenigh was:
Soo baert den eersten val
Des werelts / sonder rust /
Veel quaets / en lust tot al:
Ja soo daer iemandt malt /
Een yeder volght / en valt.
