Als ick in liefde ben/ dan ben ick als ghebonden/
Als ick daer buyten ben/ dan ben ick gantsch gheschonden/
Wat doe ick doch aldus? ontbonden wil ick zijn/
Soo ick ontbonden ben/ so meerdert doch mijn pijn/
Soo ick dus langhe blijf/ ick moet mijn vreuchden derven/
Soo ick dus niet en blijf/ soo moet ick doch wel sterven.
Soo ick ghesloten blijf/ soo blijf ick inden noot/
Soo ick ontsloten word’/ soo gae ick inde doot.

Als ik in de liefde ben, ben ik als vastgebonden. Ben ik er buiten, dan ben ik geschonden. Wat moet ik toch doen? Ik wil ontbonden zijn, maar als ik ontbonden ben neemt mijn pijn toe. Als ik hier langer blijf, zal ik geen vreugde hebben. Als ik wegga zal ik sterven. Als ik opgesloten blijf, blijf ik in nood. Als ik vrij kom, dan ga ik dood. |

De kat wacht af terwijl de muis de kooi open doet. Zo staat ons, wanneer we kwaad vermijden, het ergere te wachten. |
