Translations

De hoop is de beste voedster van de ziel.
Hope nourishes the soul best.
Want in die hoop zijn wij behouden. [...] Indien wij echter hopen op hetgeen wij niet zien, verwachten wij het met volharding.
We are saved through hope. [...] And if we hope for something we do not see, patiently look out for it.
De hoop richt de ziel voor eeuwig op en daarom voelt zij geen ellende van buiten.
Hope sets soul's sights towards eternity and therefore does not feel any external evils she has to undergo.
Het geloof vertrouwt, de hoop en de liefde bidden.
Faith believes, hope and love pray.
De hoop is de lamp van de ziel; daartoe doet ieder mens al het goede ten behoeve van de hoop, en zelfs ’s nachts brandt onze lamp. Want wie dagelijks het woord tot ons spreekt, giet als het ware olie in ons, dat onze lamp niet dooft.
Soul's leading light is her hope. In her light every human being brings into practice whatever good is conducive to hope, and in the night our lantern burns. For he who speaks the word to us daily pours in new oil as it were, lest the lamp be extinguished.
Wie blij is in de hoop zal ook het leven verkrijgen, maar wie geen hoop heeft, zal niet leven.
He who rejoices in hope, will also hold on to what it is about. However, who does not have hope, shall not be able to attain the goal.
Met liefde wordt de ziel gevoed en om het best te kunnen opgroeien, krijgt zij melk van de hoop.
Om onze ziel tot steeds grotere volmaaktheid te laten groeien in deze liefde, voedt de hoop haar en verheft haar dagelijks, terwijl ze ons hier beneden tevreden stelt, maakt dat wij gelukzalig wachten en het vervelende [de overlast] van het wachten vergeten door de kwaliteit van wat we ervoor terugkrijgen.
