CELEREM HABET INGRESSVM AMOR, REGRESSVM TARDVM.

Plutarch.
Amor ingressus non facilè discedit, quamuis alatus,
nec penitus liberam relinquit animam, remanetque in
ea vestigium, veluti siluæ exustæ aut fumantis, neque
penitus ex ossibus eijcitur.

Slow in departing.

Cupid doth come in haste, but slow away hee goth,
A speedie cause hee fynds that his returne may stay,
Hope makes him to belieue ther’s comfort in delay,
Feare of departing payn, to parte doth make him loth.

Lento al partire.

Con vn volo leggier, con mezzo sguardo
Impiaga prima Amor, ma diuen zoppo
Al ritirarsi, & mette al’ ali vn groppo.
Ben presto entra l’Amor’, esce ben tardo.

Cupidoos comst is snel/ en langhsaem is sijn scheyden/
Een oorsaeck vint hy haest/ die ’t wegh-gaen hem belet/
Dat haest comt/ haest vergaet/ strijdt teghen Liefdes wet,
Door vrees’ van scheydens pijn Cupido soeckt ’t verbeyden.

Lent au depart.

Cupidon dans nos coeurs d’vn vol leger arriue,
Mais à se retirer il cloche du pied droit,
Et a ses aislerons estraints d’vn neud estroit.
Bien viste entre l’amour, sa sortie est tardiue.

[Publilius Syrus] Liefde komt snel en gaat traag.

[Publilius Syrus] Love is quick in coming in, and slow in departing.

[Plutarchus] Als liefde binnen is, gaat hij niet gemakkelijk weer weg, al is hij gevleugeld, en zelfs dan laat hij de ziel niet geheel vrij, maar een spoor blijft er in achter, als van een verbrand en rokend bos, en hij wordt niet helemaal uit het innerlijk geworpen.

[Plutarchus] When love is inside he does not easily depart, although he is winged, and he does not leave the soul entirely free, but in it a trace remains, like of a burnt down or smoking wood, and he is not completely cast out of the inner parts.
