Tempore qui lepores, sæpè & vtroque caret.
Cautus amans vnam tantùm venatur amicam;
Nam spem multiuolus ludificatur amor. translationtranslation

Hee that catcheth at much takes hold of litle.
Hee that two hares doth chase gets sildome anie one,
So lykwyse doth hee speed that doth two loues embrace,
For true loue still by kynde flyes from a double face,
Deuyed loue deserues the loyall loue of none.

Chi molto abbraccia, poco stringe.
Chi con leggiero cor duo lepri caccia,
E chi non men leggier serue à due Dame,
Per appagare l’amorose brame,
d’Ambe due perderà l’orme, e la traccia.

Die veel bestaet/ hem veel ontgaet.
Hy die twee hasen iaeght vanght selden een van beyden/
De ghene die ghelijck twee dochters oock bemint/
Hem sitten meest in d’asch tusschen twee stoelen vint.
De liefd’ en recht niet wt/ wanneer hy is gescheyden.

Qui trop embrace, peu estreint.
Qui deux lieures poursuit à mipartie chasse
Fera faute à tous deux, ainsi qui fait l’amour
A deux dames au coup, l’vne, & l’autre à son tour
l’Esconduiront à droit, de tout ce qu’il pourchasse.

Wie op twee hazen jaagt, vangt er geen.
Who hunts two hares, catches none.
Doe één ding, want wie tegelijkertijd op twee hazen jaagt, mist vaak beide. Een voorzichtige minnaar jaagt slechts één vriendin na, want liefde die veel begeert, frustreert de verwachting [cf. Philostratus, Imagines, 1, 6 ?]
Do one thing, for who at the same time hunts two hares, will take hold of none. A careful lover will hunt only one girl-friend, for love that strives for much frustrates expectation. [cf. Philostratus, Imagines, 1, 6 D?]
