Het gheen natuere niet vermach,
De liefde salt te weghe brenghen,
Natuere brenght veel aen den dach,
En kan den mensch yet goets verlenghen,
Maer bouen tijdt de liefde sweeft,
En brenght de ziel int eeuwigh leuen,
Als haer natuer en tijdt begheeft:
Dus wilt den palm aen Liefde gheuen.
De liefde salt te weghe brenghen,

de verdrukking waar ik in roem, werkt volharding uit, en de volharding beproefdheid, en de beproefdheid hoop; en de hoop maakt

de letter die doodt moet de mens zijn toevlucht nemen tot de Geest die levend maakt, en het vermogen dat hij niet in zijn
natuur vindt, moet hij in de genade
zoeken, waarvan het voornaamste geschenk de liefde is. |

mens vermag niets uit eigen kracht behalve de neiging tot gevaar, maar door de liefde is hij tot alles in staat. |

Liefde is heel sterk, want ze kan met haar kracht de natuur zelf overwinnen.

Het is
wel waar dat de natuur veel kan bewerkstelligen in datgene wat ze heeft gemaakt, maar in onze omstandigheden heeft de liefde
meer macht en meer effect.
De natuur laat ons sterven, de liefde leidt ons naar de hemel; dus met recht geef ik haar de zegepalm. |
